“Southern Staples”- Indigo & Iron Collection
John's Island tomatoes-these were the kind of tomatoes that needed just white bread, Duke's, and salt. Every summer, we'd stop at a roadside stand-no sign, just crates and a cash box-and load up.
That sandwich was always the first taste of real summer and no other tomatoes hold a candle to the ones from John's Island.
From the artist: Indigo & Iron is Charleston as I remember it. It’s about the details that stick with you: iron gates, roadside boiled peanuts, and the feel of the marsh air. Each piece includes three miniature oil paintings on historic Mobile Bay pottery fragments, hand-collected along the Eastern Shore and displayed in brass and glass shadow box.
