“Raise Hell, Drop Anchor”- Indigo & Iron Collection
My elementary art teacher used to tell wild stories of pirates and explorers circumnavigating the globe while we painted. My favorite tales were of Magellan and Blackbeard. Especially the story of how Blackbeard blockaded the Charleston Harbor, took hostages, and demanded a chest of medicine-not gold or rum. I don't know what was more exciting-the art, or her convincing us we were one wrong turn from buried treasure.
From the artist: Indigo & Iron is Charleston as I remember it. It’s about the details that stick with you: iron gates, roadside boiled peanuts, and the feel of the marsh air. Each piece includes three miniature oil paintings on historic Mobile Bay pottery fragments, hand-collected along the Eastern Shore and displayed in brass and glass shadow box.
