Shuck It | Savannah Asmus
A single oyster is painted at close range on a fragment of historic stoneware, its layered shell, soft interior, and irregular edges rendered across an equally irregular surface. Shuck It turns two objects shaped by the waters of Mobile Bay—the oyster and the recovered pottery fragment—into one small study of texture, place, and what the shoreline leaves behind.
Year: 2026
Medium: Oil on one historic pottery fragment
Pottery: Albany-slipped stoneware, primarily c. 1880-1920
Locality: Eastern Shore, Mobile Bay, Ala.
Framed dimensions: 11.5 × 14.5 in.
